about
Week 13 of my weekly song project. This song is a science fiction story, and a not very original one at that.
lyrics
In the passenger seat
Of a bright yellow SUV
An eleven year old kid
Is feeling down about everything
His mom doesn't understand
She sees the device in his hand
but to her it's a toy
Well he'd never felt
Connected like that
To anyone before
Maybe never again
All the people that he loved the best
Were cut off, no longer had access
to the game
They are pixels on a screen
or sometimes unseen at all
The ghost in the machine
got kicked out of the shopping mall
All the magic of the early betas
was omitted from the final release
Or blocked on copyright grounds in some countries
He'd finally found
something bigger than himself
It meant something then
But now it means something else
They say he's got healthy imagination
When talks about fighting a brutal regime
But he knows it's real
At least it was
Before the patch and the purge
His friends are all gone
Replaced with dumb bots
And the worst part about it all
Is how they didn't even kick him off
They still want him as a customer
